RYOHOTHERAPY TRAINING PROSPECTUS
RYOHO COURSE 2018 PROSPECTUS
Please read carefully-not just price structure.
Due to demand, Ryoho will offer yoga teacher and Ryoho training in 2018.
With a minimum requirement of 1000 hours, you can rest assured that our course will give you in-depth understanding of how postures affect bodily functions and health. Full training in Shiatsu therapy provides one on one diagnostic skills and therapy.
We aim to offer our students the knowledge they need to be truly excellent Therapists. Those who want to train in Ryoho Therapy have to understand that they are learning a full medical system and people will be coming to them with hope in their hearts, looking for help. RYOHOTHERAPY provides a real alternative to interventionist medical systems.
What does Ryoho Therapy offer its students?
The Ryoho Centre is fully insured with Arthur J. Gallagher (Suncorp) and all graduates are insured upon completion based on Ryoho association membership.
The 2018 course will include the unique concept of Shiatsu Therapy diagnosis and treatment as part of the course.
Ryoho Therapy pioneered the Insurance of Natural Therapists over 30 years ago, with emphasis on Yoga Teachers and Shiatsu Practitioner Insurance. 200 hours based IH insurance will not stand up in court in Australia should an injury be caused by the teacher.
Upon reaching the pre-requisite standard which is competency based, you will receive a Diploma. This does not mean you can perform all asanas, it means you understand what is required to perform an asana, that you understand the connection between certain food groups and certain conditions, that you understand the connection of breath and yoga and that you know how to deliver Ryoho Yoga as Therapy, it does not mean that you are perfect in yoga. It means you understand the path of yoga. It does not matter how old, young or damaged you are, you can still learn to teach yoga. There are Ryoho Therapy teachers working strongly in their 70's, there are Ryoho Therapy teachers, who had broken necks, hips and all manner of injuries and issues and by healing themselves they went on to be excellent Therapists.
True training in Yoga is not just Hatha (postures), but diet, breathing, concentration, discipline; all these techniques are presented during the course. We aim to provide students with all the tools that make yoga a science for self-development.
Properly targeted Yoga Therapy and the Yamas (cleansing and dietary techniques) have been used for centuries to alleviate disease, physical injuries and are a profoundly effective adult training system. Doing the same asanas repetitively or just prescribing with dietary changes or meditation is pointless without understanding the needs of the individual.
Therapy and self-development have always and will always be, based on the needs of the individual. The goal of yoga is to provide a self- development tool to create healthy, co-operative members of the community.
Yoga is a therapy in its own right.
Yoga isn't for everyone but therapy is. Ryoho Therapy includes Shiatsu for one on one treatments based on the same metaphor as Ryoho Yoga Therapy. The Ryoho Therapist can work with any level of disease and physical impairment from invalid to athlete. We all start on our path of self -development when we realize that our lives are uncomfortable.
Ryoho Yoga training is based on teaching the student true yoga but the Ryoho Yoga Teacher delivers therapy. People come to yoga to feel better: that means they want therapy. Included within yoga theory are all the principles of healthy living from nutrition to body alignment and area diagnostic techniques. Focusing only on meditation or yoga postures as the only or main aspect of yoga is a great disservice to the full scope of the yoga tradition. Having stated that, attending or discovering aspects of yoga in the wider community, has been for many, a positive first step in their yoga journey.
Shiatsu has its origins in Japan and became popular only recently after being accepted as a paramedical system in the second half of the last century in many countries. The hands on approach makes it the most effective diagnostic tool available for prescribing nutritional advice and corrective yoga therapy. A Ryoho Therapy trained practitioner has all the tools to help anyone recover from serious injury or debilitating disease to their maximum potential; with of course the co-operation of their clients.
Learning yoga to deliver therapy and deliver yoga for specific problems in a group or one on one session. Prescribe effective therapeutic tools and deliver effective Shiatsu Therapy.
ABOUT RYOHO THERAPY
To truly understand yoga one must see the 8 limbs of yoga as an organic whole.
Some people need to learn how to breathe; others need to calm the mind.
Some people need to discover how to nurture themselves properly but all of these problems will present symptomatically and your training will allow you to treat the cause.
It is very difficult to change eating habits without changing body functions first. For example, practising the appropriate corrective yoga pose will definitely help with your diet, changing your diet might help with breathing problems, therefore each therapist NEEDS to know all 8 limbs of yoga.
Many yoga schools teach different aspects of yoga, some based on meditation and some on hatha (asanas). Some have even truncated the beautiful, elaborate life science of yoga, into a few basic postures practised in a heated room.
A deeper study of yoga reveals that we must discover where our true need resides. This is the true secret of yoga; eat and live well so that you can practice asanas and meditation, to enable you to eat and live well. Yoga is an organic whole, just like life. If you ask any true Yogi what Yoga is, they will only ever answer; Yoga is life. In life we all have negative reactions; these are eliminated by fulfilling our needs. Shiatsu Therapy is a more subtle way of discovering a person’s need.
Therapy is discovering which kind of treatment should be prescribed, for what period of time, at what level of difficulty to achieve the desired results. It is very important to understand that delivering the same kind of therapy to everyone, might have short term benefits for a few but only leads to stress, strain and in most cases adverse effects in the long term.
Learning RYOHO THERAPY is a full medical profession. People undertake this training as a serious life-style commitment. In other words the expectations of the qualified RYOHO THERAPIST is they can help someone become healthy, stable and fulfilled on the level of looking after their own health. Ryoho Therapy is not delivering a franchisable product. A Ryoho Therapist sees someone in need, delivers their Therapy and achieves results.
This means that it is not a passive course, there are expectations on commitment, homework and study is experiential (meaning you learn on your self).
Healing is an experience: it is not a memory.
Half an hour every day minimum must be set aside between lectures for personal study, practise of asanas etc because every week builds upon the week before.
We all learn at different rates and we all learn in different ways, you can be old or young, healthy or sick just a willingness to learn. Learning yoga is TOTALLY different from the study you did at school or university.
The course will commence
The second week of July 2018 Tuesday the 10th at 6pm
An attendance rate of 100% is EXPECTED for Lectures and any Course component such as Retreats and Yoga classes.
Apprentice-style individual training for students will continue into 2019.
Students will complete a minimum of 500 hours of classes per year, with 1000 hours total of learning time. This is above and beyond the minimum Australian standard and Yoga Australia/Alliance requirement of only 200 hours.
All students must realize that the training course is really two years long.
The second year of apprentice style training, is in a lot of ways more important than the theory part of the course. Trainees should be prepared to apply their newfound knowledge for at least a year under supervision and ad hoc group meetings. Your personal approach to delivering the training you have received to the public is constantly reviewed and if necessary remedial training is provided.

Yoga and Shiatsu are an evolving experience, not something you can memorise.
Healing is an art form: it never ends.
…the incredible satisfaction you feel when you help a client, who has lived with little or no functioning for decades in some cases, reach their full potential both physically and mentally is indescribable. Clients, who can play their favourite sport, play with kids or Grand Children, when they thought this would never be possible again. To have the tools to help people is the greatest gift.
